Dan Skwire ’91 is a man after my own heart — a successful actuary with serious interests in literature. His first article had the wonderful title, “Actuarial Issues in the Novels of Jane Austen” (1997) — now doesn’t that encapsulate the liberal arts ideal? My friends in the Jane Austen Society were wildly enthusiastic about it because it showed that the author, educated at home, was right on target on the various tricky actuarial matters that come up in her plots.
